Women Powering Odisha’s Energy Transition
Clean Futures Odisha (CFO): Women Powering Odisha’s Energy Transition
Odisha produces 15% of India’s thermal power yet remains highly vulnerable to cyclones, floods, and pollution — placing millions at climate risk.
By 2030, Odisha targets 43% renewable energy. CFO places women at the centre of this shift — transforming them from energy users into energy leaders.
Why Odisha?
- Frontline of the crisis: Energy-rich but climate-vulnerable — 48M people, 23% indigenous, rising exposure to extreme weather.
- Strong grassroots base: Over 7M women in self-help groups (SHGs) supported by Mission Shakti, NABARD, and UNDP.
- Supportive policy environment: Odisha’s SAPCC and renewable roadmap provide strong momentum for a just energy transition.
What CFO Does
- Builds women’s leadership: Women-led Energy Committees and CFO Champions guide local clean energy decisions.
- Expands clean energy access: Pilots solar irrigation, clean cooking, biogas, and efficient lighting for rural homes.
- Unlocks opportunity: Links women to energy-linked livelihoods, reduces costs, and amplifies their voice in India’s Net Zero 2070 planning.
Our Journey (2025–28)
- Engagement at scale: 25,000+ women and girls trained across Angul, Koraput, and Kendrapara.
- Tangible climate gains: 4–6 MtCO₂ reduced through women-led clean energy adoption.
- Systemic change: Gender equity embedded in Odisha’s energy roadmap, expanding economic opportunity.
